A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was a President of India. Full name of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam.
A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born in Rameshwarm Of Madras Presidency on 15 th October 1931 to a poor family .He lived with his family in the temple City of Tamilnadu , Rameshwarm ,where his father Jainulabdeen had a boat and was an Imam of a local Mosque . At the same time , his mother, Ashiamna , was a housewife . Kalam had four brothers and one sister in his family from which he was the youngest . Kalam' s ancestors had been wealthy traders the family had descended into difficult times and Kalam used to sell newspaper as a child to add on his family income.
Education background
Kalam studies at a school in Rameshwarm and acquired a degree in physics from Saint Joseph's College , Tiruchirapalli. In 1955, he went to the Madras Institute of Technology to pursue aerospace engineering . His dream of becoming a fighter pilot was thwarted when he missed the qualifies by a narrow margin.He was ranked ninth but only 8 position was available with the IAF.
As a Scientist
After that he got a job as a Scientist at the Aeronautical Development , Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organization ( DRDO) .He also worked under eminent scientist Vikram Sarabhai.
Kalam was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1969. At ISRO he was the project director of Satellite launch vehicle ( SLV) .that successful devolped the Satellite Rohini into orbit in 1980 . It was first Indian SLV.
Kalam also worked to develop Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.( PSLV.)
Achievements
He was known as the Missile man of India.for his work in the development of ballistic missile technology.
From 1992 - 1999 , Kalam was the Chief Scientific advisor of the Prime Ministers And the secretary of the DRDO. Kalam was the chief project coordinator during the Pokhren || tests.
President of India
In 2002, Abdul Kalam was elected the 11th president of India. He had won by a great margin .He was the first scientist to become India's President
After the Presidency ,Kalam became a visiting professor at the IIM Ahmedabad , IIM Shillong ,IIM Indore, the Indian institute of science .
Important phase of his life
Abdul Kalam was a man Of integrity who was known for his honesty .He left no personal wealth for after his death barring a few personal possessions which included in his book , laptop etc.
He was knowledge able in the teaching of various religious and had become a symbol of inter faith dialogue.
Death
On July27, 2015 ,Kalam suffered a massive heart attack while lecturing at The Indian Institute of Management and subsequently died at the age of 83.
